Raise your hand
if you ever read something and then you could not answer a question about what
you just read? There are times when I am rushing, and I just read but I don't
really know what I just read. This happens because sometimes we just keep
reading and we do not stop and think “Did I get what I just read?”
Today I want to teach you that when you are reading sometimes you have to read,
cover, remember what you read, and then retell without looking at your book.
When you are reading it is important to take notes about the topic because then
you will really understand and be able to answer questions about the topic. There are 4 steps to follow.
- Read!
- Cover!
- Remember (It
is ok to peek but try not to)
- Retell!

analysis and discussion?

does it mean to orbit?

does the moon orbit?
· What

Backward Design
Mr. Wiggins stated that UBD is not a philosophy of teaching or a teaching approach but a planning framework. UBD helps us to keep our goals when teaching. We are to use the long term goals and apply them to our short term goals. He also stated that a textbook is not the course but a resource that helps to support our goal.
My understanding of the Backward Design is to start from the very end and work our way back. An example that was given by Mr. Wiggins was being a history and teaching history from the past. Below is a picture that talks about the three stages of the backward design and questions to ask yourself before moving on to the next stage.
